Course Curriculum

Course Curriculum

Band and Strings: (AMI2O, AMS2O)
Since the Band and strings courses are so similar to each other I have just combined them into one group.

The course is graded by 70% being performance and 30% on other things such as Music dictation, Rhythmic dictation etc.
At the end of the course there is a Culminating activity which is a playing test. As for assignments you can expect 2 compositions (for band there is trio composition and Orchestration).

Vocal: (AMV2O)
Will switch between different genres such as funk, foreign, etc. There will most likely be a presentation of a children's Musical by students some time during the course. And still it is graded by 70% performance and 30% of other things.

Study Notes

Miscellaneous
Collaborative Ensembles:
If you're interested in producing music in a small group, (example), you can propose ideas here-
We need-
Production equipment, a blending program like Audacity. Several instrument players, recording equipment, etc.

Alexander Singers and Players:

If you are interested in joining a choir, which does a variety of music and a Concert you could look into joining the Alexander Singers.

If you happen to be interested in being a part of a full production musical or something similar you could think of Auditioning for the Alexander players, who do a musical or something similar every spring since 1988, for example this year they did the musical: My Fair Lady, and last year they did Cabaret.

Toronto District School Board Youth Orchestra and Youth Band

This year, I had the privilege of being part of the TDSB Youth Orchestra. This year, we went to Austria and Germany to tour the countries and to perform. It was honestly an amazing experience. I had written a journal about the trip for an English assignment, but because it was handwritten, I can't post it here. I tried uploading a couple of pictures, but it wasn't working, so I'll upload some ASAP so that you can see my experience.

Around October of 2010, I found out about this TDSBYO, and so I went to audition and made it in. I didn't know anyone at first, but I started getting to know everyone slowly. The trip to Europe, especially, really helped strengthen our friendships.
At the end of April this year, the TDSBYO held a concert at the Macmillan Theatre in the Faculty of Music of the University of Toronto. The TDSB Youth Band also performed. If any of you are interested, be sure to keep checking the bulletin board outside the music room for forms and other information.
